Day 2 - Saturday June 1, 2002
Opening Ceremonies

     At left, Randy Rosen introduces Tom Kuhs, organizer of the Diana Lynn Kuhs 1st Annual Memorial Bike Run. Proceeds from the bike run totaling $8,059.00 will benefit patients and cancer research at Roswell Park Cancer Institute. The 102 bikers who participated in the event were given preferred parking around the Main Stage as they completed the run just prior to the opening ceremonies.
     Shown at right,under the direction of Commander Mark Hebner, are the Gowanda American Legion Color Guard who participated in the ceremony during The Pledge and National Anthem.

Brian Bradley, from the Gowanda Chamber of Commerce and The Friends of the Hollywood, read a long list of groups and individuals who contributed to this Harley Happening. He also introduced the other individuals who spoke as part of the opening ceremonies.

Dixie Forbes, sings the National Anthem. Dixie is currently a senior at Gowanda Central School as well as a member of the high school chorus and choral highlights group. She is also a National School Choral Award winner.

Mayor Dick Klancer gives his official welcome to Gowanda to all those attending the Harley Happening. The mayor expressed his wishes for a safe and enjoyable weekend to all taking part in the Harley Happening.

NY State Senator Patricia McGee made comments about the event at hand and the Hollywood Theater renovation project which benefits from the funds that are raised over the weekend. Seen with Senator McGee is Gowanda resident Belle Wallace who just celebrated her 100th birthday in March and who was in attendance at the original opening of the Hollywood Theater on April 19, 1926.

Father Dan Walsh, of St. Joseph's R.C. Church, delivers a few comments about the occasion and delivers an opening prayer of thanks for the "beautiful day, these wonderful people, for their families and friends". Father Walsh also made himself available along West Main during the weekend for anyone interested in having their motorcycle blessed.

Overseer of the development of this years new beer garden, Kevin Eddy, points in that direction while thanking a long list of organizations and individuals who helped to make it a reality. That list includes, in part, Molson and Coor Light, Sam Adams, Mikes Hard beverages (lemonade, iced tea and cranberry), Certo Brothers, Bob Gabel and Gabel Brothers Furniture, Erie County Fair Board, Water Valley Nurseries, Markham Nurseries, St. Joe's Church, Randy Rosen, Gowanda Harley-Davidson, the Reid Family, Fredonia State Univerity, Angola Volunteer Fire Company (for use of their bar), Sound Chasers Inc (for the stage), Gowanda Village Board, and Sandy's Smoke Shop (for ice) plus many others.
