Rally To Restore Gowanda's Historic Hollywood Theater
Motorcyclists and rally goers are invited to join the Friends of the Hollywood as they present the fourth annual Harley Happening at the Hollywood to raise funds and awareness towards the restoration of Gowanda's historic Hollywood Theater. The annual fundraiser will take place on West Main Street in the Village of Gowanda on Saturday and Sunday, June 1st & 2nd, 2002 with a community preview night on May 31st. Sponsored in part by Gowanda Harley-Davidson, Inc., the Harley Happening at the Hollywood is an entertaining weekend with plenty of food, refreshments, live music and Harley-Davidson motorcycles. There is no admission to attend. Rally goers are simply asked to spend generously with the vendors and local businesses and in return they support the Hollywood Theater through donations. In planning for over a year, the fourth annual Harley Happening at the Hollywood is to be a quality fundraiser for the Hollywood Theater. Special attractions, such as the Miller Lite / Harley-Davidson Rusty Wallace NASCAR show car will be on display. Two full days of live music featuring the region's best rock and blues bands. A premium beer garden will complement the excellent variety of mouth-watering foods in a welcoming location for couples.
In addition, a Ride In Bike Show featuring customized Harley-Davidson motorcycles, a tattoo contest and a fashion show highlighting Harley-Davidson MotorClothes® is also being planned.
Funds needed for the Hollywood Theater restoration project reach nearly $3 million. Bids to begin Phase II of the restoration are being accepted. It is estimated that Phase II will cost around $143,000 and the project will include the restoration of the clay camel-back coping, parapet and masonry walls. The actual expense will not be known until sealed bids are opened and reviewed. Funds accumulated from previous Harley Happening at the Hollywood events will contribute to the Phase II restoration process.
