Village board supports Harley Happening

By Mary Pankow

Plans for this year's Harley Happening at the Hollywood can now move forward thanks to the granting of an exclusive application at the March 12 Village of Gowanda Board meeting.
The Hollywood Theater Board of Directors and Harley Happening Committee had presented the village board with a list of requests at the Feb. 19 meeting. Among the requests were specifics about the refreshment (beer) tent and vendor control.
Because of problems encountered in the past, notably with the beer tent, a workshop meeting had been called by Mayor Dick Klancer at the end of February so that the village board, Harley Happening Committee, Friends of the Hollywood Theater and Gowanda Fire Department Board of Directors could resolve their differences and focus on making the May 31, June 1 and 2 event a success.
The mayor said he thought some kind of agreement had been reached from that meeting and was surprised when questioned about a fire department beer tent permit at Tuesday evening's meeting. This had no bearing on the decision of the board, however. The motion for the exclusive application was passed unanimously.
The mayor did explain that board approval was based on stipulations that insurance needs are met."
Randy Rosen, spokesperson for those involved in the Harley Happening, and Gowanda Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Bryan Bradley, assured the board that all necessary paperwork will be completed and submitted.
Klancer added that "as a village unit, we will not issue any permits (for the Harley event) as long as all stipulations are met."
Rosen and the other audience members associated with the event, left the boardroom with positive determination to "dot all i's and cross all t's" to please the insurance company and make the Harley Happening enjoyable for all.
