Dr. and Mrs. Richard S. Smith of Mount Desert, Maine, are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Jennifer Laura, to Joshua Campbell Torrance, son of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Torrance of Gowanda.

     Ms. Smith, a graduate of the University of Michigan School of Music, is a classical voice instructor in Ellsworth, Maine, and is employed by The Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor, Maine.

     Mr. Torrance is a graduate of Elmira College and holds master degrees in history from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania and in museum studies from the Cooperstown Graduate Program. He is executive director of the Woodlawn Museum in Ellsworth, Maine.

     Mr. Torrance is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Campbell, also of Gowanda.
