Amber K. Silverheels of Gowanda, daughter of Elwin and Carol Silverheels and graduate of Gowanda High School, recently enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Delayed Entry Program (DEP).
All enlistees are in the DEP, which means they have been found to be physically, mentally and morally qualified to become Marines. The future Marines, who are also referred to as poolees, have joined the Marine Corps and are preparing for recruit training. They will all be going to Parris Island, SC within the next year.
All poolees are required to attend a monthly meeting, which is usually held on a Saturday.
The purpose of these meetings is to mentally and physically prepare them for 13 weeks of the most demanding training in the world.
Silverheels was enlisted by SSgt. Ortega from Recruiting Substation Jamestown, Permanent Contracting Station located in Dunkirk. For more information, call 366-1899 or 863-5158.
