The Smallwood Home - The Smallwood home at 50 North Chapel Street in Gowanda has been in the family since 1890. This picture shows the house before the roof is raised in 1891-92. Daughter Ruth is born there in 1893. Bula Lincoln Palcic is also born there, but never reides there. The house is the first home of three Palcic children, Joshua, Zachary and Benjamin. William and Blanche Smallwood own the house until 1946. From 1946 to 1975, Ivan and Elizabeth Lincoln own it, with Martin and Susie Palcic taking ownership from 1975 to 2002. The first telephone in Gowanda was installed in the house and connected to the Smallwood Jewelry Store 7 West Main Street. In the photo, the neighborhood youngsters enjoy the large porch as Ralph Carpenter plays a solo on his drum in the front yard. William Smallwood is standing at the right near the front steps.
