Cross Country Team, 1953 - As recorded in the 1954 Valley Bugle,”For the first time in its athletic history the Gowanda Central School has won the Western New York cross-country championship and gone through the season undefeated. Through the very fine coaching of Bartlett Ross, the team really did a fine job in representing their school.” While all team members had an excellent season, Bob Williams and Dana Boss were Gowanda’s top finishers in the Section IV meet and qualified for the state meet in Schenectady. Shown here, front row, from left, are John Cocca, Larry Dial, Don Milligan and Dana Boss. Top row: Bartlett Ross (coach), Bill Neeley, Bob Williams, Bob Grudzien (captain), Dale Beaver, Luman Dial and Jim Smith (manager).
