| Eastern Tanners Glue Company - "The Production of Animal Glue," a slide program by guest speaker Jim Klug of Bowling Green, Ohio will be presented Saturday, Sept. 27 at 2 p.m. in the Gowanda Area Historical Society museum at the corner of Chestnut and Commercial streets. Klug will tell the story of Peter Cooper and Richard Wilhelm, men who were instrumental in the development and success of the glue industry in the United States. Billed as the "world's largest glue factory" in 1925, the operations of the former Peter Cooper plant in Gowanda will be explained in detail. While geared toward the speaker's interest in the former Erie Railroad, this program will give the audience a sense of the importance and historical significance of this industry. Anyone from the area who recalls the "glue factory" will want to attend, especially former employees. Admission is free and all are welcome. Photo courtesy of Gowanda Area Historical Society. |
