| Main Street bridge - With the new bridge open to traffic in 1963, construction in that area settles down until 1996 when the Routes 39 and 62 Reconstruction Project takes place. Although the bridge is for the most part left alone, it is resurfaced. In this photo, note the lack of traffic signals, which aren't installed until the early 1970's. Until that time, "yield" and "stop" signs are used to control traffic in the square. (Photo courtesy of the Gowanda Area Historical Society.) |
