| Main Street bridge - With vehicles being rerouted to Aldrich Street after the Main Street bridge is closed in 1962, a pedestrian bridge is installed near the supermarket parking lot, allowing shoppers to cross the Cattaraugus Creek in the business district. In August, the 73-year-old iron bridge is torn down, and Union Concrete and Construction Corporation of West Seneca begins building a new four-lane modern span. On May 22, 1963, the new bridge is officially dedicated. (Photo courtesy of the Gowanda Area Historical Society.) |
