Pioneer Days - A number of people are waiting for the Western Auto Associate Store to open its West Main Street door so they can take advantage of Pioneer Days specials. Other sales abound in Gowanda including some grocery specials next door at Nu-Way Market. Bologna is 49 cents a pound and bananas are two pounds for cents. Note the stylish lamppost, "NY 39" sign and "seen better days" pieced together 1950's coupe. Although the stores shown in this photo are now part of Gowanda's history, Pioneer Days is still a popular event and takes place May 15-18.     (Photo courtesy of the Robert Peggs Collection / Gowanda Area Historical Society.)
