Valley vista - pre-1878

Valley vista - From a vantage point on Cemetary Hill Road, a photographer captures the essence of Gowanda, "beautiful valley between the hills." Many homes and businesses cover the thriving municipality. Careful scrutiny of the photo reveals a covered wooden bridge spanning the Cattaraugus Creek. Also visible are numerous factories, hotels and stores. Today, this hillside is covered with trees and brush, and many of the buildings and some of the homes have been replaced as a result of fires and floods.
