| Roffe's Model Bakery - In 1897, Fred C. Roffe opens Roffe's Model Bakery at 38 West Main Street and bases his business on the motto "Quality and Pure material." Boasting a sizeable patronage, Roffe "sells his bread not only to stores in Gowanda, but ships it in large quantities to ... other places along the line of the railroad." An article in the April 11, 1906 edition of "The Gowanda News" claims the bread is "scientifically prepared and carefully baked." Aside from being available at area grocery stores, the product is also delivered to "your door"." Roffe's Model Bakery is also noted for its ice cream and "goodly supply of pure, homemade candies."
