| E.W. Skinner Millinery - On West Main Street stands Mrs. Skinner's Millinery. In 1942, the location becomes Whiting's women's apparel. An ad from 1951 finds Whiting's offering Fruit of the Loom dresses for $1.88 while fancier Mother's Day dresses sell for $8.98. In 1958, the store advertises Chantilly lace and church caps - black or white - for $1 each. This building is no longer a storefront but was the site of the pie-baking contest during the 2001 Pioneer Days celebration. (Photo courtesy of Gowanda Area Historical Society.) |
