Robert W. Strong, Sr.
September 9, 1916 - January 17, 2006

     Robert W. Strong, Sr., 89, a resident of TLC/HN-Nursing Facility, formerly of Forestville, died Jan. 17, 2006.
     Mr. Strong was a graduate of the former Delevan High School Class of 1934, a graduate of Houghton College Class of 1940 with a bachelor’s degree in music, and received his master’s degree from New York University. He served in the U.S. Army as a Tech 4 in World War II and performed with the 88th Infantry Division Band. He was a band director at Forestville Central School for 37 years, starting in 1940 and retiring in 1977. Mr. Strong was a member of the First Baptist Church, Dunkirk, the New York State Retired Teachers Association and the Chautauqua County Music Teachers Association. He was also an avid gardener.
     He was the husband of Ruth (Burlingame) Strong; son of the late Rev. Reuben E. and Lila (Moore) Strong; father of Suzanne I. Strong of Forestville, Sally (William) Uhlendorff of Westerville, OH, and Robert W. (Susan) Strong II of Federal Way, WA; and brother of Janice (Richard) Sandle of East Rochester, Marilyn (Alton) Flint of Newfane and Dr. Donald J. (Shirley) Strong of Freemont, CA; also survived by five grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
     Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 876 Central Ave., Dunkirk, NY 14048.
