Harold E. Burkhardt, 69, of Leon, died Oct. 10, 2005.
     Mr. Burkhardt was a resident of Cattaraugus County and was employed by Great Lake Express and other Buffalo trucking companies. He later was an owner and operator, hauling steel from the Buffalo area. After his retirement, Mr. Burkhardt became a woodworker, making many items for his family. He was also an avid musician, playing guitar and singing with area musicians at small events and gatherings. A lifetime member of the Cattaraugus County Fair, he loved his cows and animals.
     He was the husband of Margaret (Nickerson) Burkhardt; son of the late Elmer and Myrtle (Roselle) Burkhardt; father of Diane West of Leon, Judy Scott of Lancaster and Dr. Cindy Burkhardt of Draper, VA; and brother of William Burkhardt of Tonawanda, Robert Schalck of Buffalo, and the late Carolyn Kane; also survived by six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
     Memorials may be made to the Leon Volunteer Fire Department or Leon Volunteer Firemen’s Auxiliary.
