Frederick W. Smith
October 4, 1909 - February 26, 2005

     Frederick William Smith, 95, of Silver Creek, died Feb. 26, 2005.
     Mr. Smith began school in a one-room schoolhouse and then he attended Fredonia schools. In 1931, he graduated from Allegheny College in Meadville, PA, with a degree in teaching. He began his 34-year teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse at Sheridan Center, then moved on to teach fourth grade in the Silver Creek schools, retiring from Forestville schools as a high school math teacher. Mr. Smith was honored at Forestville schools as an outstanding teacher who emphasized learning to think and reason to work out problems in math and in life. He also worked in construction with Bonhoff and Foster contractors.
     Mr. Smith was actively involved in the First United Church of Silver Creek. He enjoyed outdoor activities such as hiking and gardening as well as traveling and house renovating.
     He was the husband of the late Margaret Smith; son of the late Frederick M. and Augusta Smith; father of Janet (Donald) Anderson of Rochester and Kay (Ewald) Schneider of Spencerport; and brother of the late Henrietta Horton, Martha Smith, Betty Smith, Grace Holtz, Robert and Herbert Smith; also survived by six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
     Memorial contributions may be made to First United Church, Silver Creek, NY.
     Arrangements were by the Hole-Parker Funeral Chapel, Silver Creek.
