Byron W. Abbey
April 19, 1925 - October 15, 2004

     Byron W. Abbey, 79, of Gowanda, died Oct. 15, 2004.
     Mr. Abbey was retired from the Gowanda Psychiatric Center, having worked as a cook for 30 years. He had also served in the United States Army during World War II.
     He was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Cherry Creek, the VFW Post 5007 in Gowanda, and a former member of the Springville Moose Lodge. An avid hunter, he enjoyed fox and raccoon hunting.
     He was the husband of the late Elizabeth I. Abbey; son of the late Clinton and Esther Abbey; father of Kathleen Lange of Gowanda, Janice Abbey of Perrysburg, Jean Kilmer of West Union, IL, and Calvin Abbey of Otto; and brother of Grace Johnson and Ray Abbey, both of Collins, and the late Edith Connelly, Betty Jane Wray, Robert Abbey and Fred Tessmer; also survived by 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
     Memorials may be made to Tri-County Memorial Hospital, Gowanda Ambulance Service, Perrysburg Volunteer Fire Department or Association for the Blind.
     Arrangements were by the Mentley Funeral Home, Inc., Gowanda.
