Charles R. Deneen
     Charles R. “Doc” Deneen, 82, of Gowanda, died Sept. 17, 2004 at Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo.
     Mr. Deneen was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. He worked for the former New York Telephone in the Gowanda office for 40 years before retiring in 1980.
     He was a registered Republican and his political career included Village of Gowanda board member, Town of Persia supervisor and Cattaraugus County legislator, as well as holding various positions within the Republican Party.
     Mr. Deneen was a member of St. Joseph’s R.C. Church, American Legion Post No. 409, James Cruden VFW Post No. 5007 and the Slovenian Club, all of Gowanda. He also belonged to the Hamburg Telephone Pioneers.
     He was the husband of Jeanette Rogers; son of the late Charles P. and Josephine (Friel) Deneen; father of Thomas C. (Joanne) Deneen of West Seneca, Sharon (Sidney II) Potmesil of Charlotte Hall, MD, Margaret “Peg” Gunsolus of Cattaraugus and Cathleen “Cassie” (Lanny) Holt of Gowanda; and brother of Joan (Jack) Collins of Michigan, Cathleen “Cassie” (Gerald) Perry of Tennessee, and the late Jack, Bernice and Florence Deneen; also survived by six grandchildren, one great-grandson and several nieces and nephews.
     Memorials may be made to the Gowanda Recreation Department (St. John Park play structure) or St. Joseph School.
     Arrangements were by the Schindler Funeral Home, Gowanda.
