Jerry F. Mentley, 83, of Perrysburg, died April 29, 2004. Mr. Mentley was a World War II veteran, serving in the United States Army Air Corps. He was stationed in Hawaii, where he was an aerial engineer. He served in the battles of Central Pacific, Eastern Mandates, Western Pacific and the air offensive in Japan. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal. After the service, Mr. Mentley settled in Perrysburg. He was the mayor of Perrysburg from 1974 until 1981. He enjoyed gardening, caning, his tool shop and working with his hands. He was an avid jogger. He was the husband of the late Marian (Long) Mentley; son of the late Harry and Sarah Mentley; father of Jeffrey (Laurie) Mentley of Fenton, MI, Susan (James) Toews of Portland, OR, and Pamela (David) Hurt of Brown Summit, NC; and brother of the late Richard and Robert Mentley; also survived by four grandchildren, and two daughters who adopted him, Ginny Smith and Judy Fabrizio. Donations may be made in his honor to Hospice, 125 West State St., Olean, NY 14760. Arrangements were by the Mentley Funeral Home Inc., Gowanda. |
