A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Maitland served in the European Theater from 1942 to 1945. He was employed at the Moench Tanning Co. in Gowanda for 41 years.
He was a member of the Gowanda American Legion No. 409 and an exempt fireman for the Perrysburg Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Maitland also worked for 25 years with Gowanda Recreation in the rollerskating program.
He was the husband of Mary (Peters) Maitland; son of the late Richard and Mary (Hassel) Maitland; father of Diane Cappellino of Seneca Falls and Debra Maitland of Cheektowaga; and brother of the late John, Paul, Samuel, Frederick, Elsie, Sarah and Mary Jane Maitland, and Dorothy Blesy; also survived by two grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Perrysburg Volunteer Fire Department or the Gowanda Ambulance Service.
