Lee E. Tiller, 79, of South Dayton, died Feb. 9, 2004 at Tri-County Memorial Hospital in Gowanda. A 1943 graduate of North Collins High School, Mr. Tiller served in the Army Air Force during World War II, attaining the rank of Corporal. He enlisted on Nov. 17, 1943 at Fort Dix, NJ, and was discharged March 16, 1946 at Camp Atterbury, IN, receiving Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, a Bronze Star, American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Ribbon and World War II Victory Medal. Prior to his retirement in 1980, he was employed as a health aide at the Gowanda Psychiatric Center. He worked for Hills Funeral Chapel as an attendant during his retirement. His dedicated work made him a valued helper for many years. Mr. Tiller was a life member of the Cherry Creek VFW and also belonged to the South Dayton American Legion Post 1593. A former member of Villenova Grange 604 and the Pine Valley Lions Club, he attended the South Dayton and Gowanda United Methodist Churches. He was the husband of Ella May Tiller; son of the late Edmund and Doris (Hunt) Tiller; father of Robert Tiller and Ronald Tiller, both of Gowanda; and stepfather of Roberta Sawyer of Gowanda and the late James E. Luce; also survived by three grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the South Dayton Ambulance Squad. Arrangements were by the Hills Funeral Chapel, South Dayton. |
