Lois (Besecker) Bobseine Eaton, 85, formerly of Cattaraugus, Farmersville, and Kane, PA, died Jan. 24, 2004 at Memory Gardens in Jamestown. Mrs. Bobseine Eaton was a graduate of Bryant and Stratton Business Institute in Buffalo and was employed by the Bank of Cattaraugus and for several years at the ASCS offices of Cooperative Extension in Ellicottville. She was a pioneer in women's politics, serving as the first elected woman supervisor in Cattaraugus County for the Town of Otto as well as the first woman member of the Cattaraugus County Board of Supervisors. She was the founding member and president of the Cattaraugus County Women's Republican Club and was a founder and chairman of the Cattaraugus County Planning Board. Mrs. Bobseine Eaton was a long-time member of the National Rifle Association and the National Wild Turkey Federation. Other civic activities included PTA president and American Field Service coordinator at Cattaraugus Central School, American Cancer Society, Red Cross and March of Dimes fund drives volunteer, chairman of the Tri-County Hospital Auxiliary for the Town of Otto, Home Bureau member and youth activities advocate. She was the wife of the late Howard W. Bobseine and the late Carl D. Eaton; daughter of the late Harley and Mary (Lutz) Besecker; mother of Gale L. Bobseine of Ellicottville, Greta L. Bobseine of Chautauqua, Gwen L. Colton of Great Valley and Gary L. Bobseine of Cattaraugus; and sister of Bud Besecker of Virginia, Dorothy Nelson of California, Winifred Mabry of Indiana, and the late Audrey Saar and Onda Colvin; also survived by nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
