Myrtle I. (Milks) Volk, 99, of Cottage, died Jan. 5, 2004 at Lake Shore Nursing Home in Irving after a lengthy illness. A lifelong resident of Cottage, Mrs. Volk attended school in Dayton by riding a train. She was employed at the Canning Factory in South Dayton and J.N. Adam in Perrysburg before becoming a cook at Gowanda Elementary School. After working for 14 years at the elementary school, she retired as head cook in 1966. She loved to cook, especially for her family. She also loved reading and crocheting. Many people from the Cottage area took piano lessons from her. She was a charter member of the Cottage Grange and also belonged to the Ladies Aid of the Cottage Methodist Church. She played organ at the church for 32 years. She was the wife of Charles Volk; daughter of the late Frank and Flora (Wood) Milks; mother of Kenneth C. (Patricia) Volk of Cottage; and sister of the late Herbert, George and Clayton Milks; also survived by five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the South Dayton Ambulance or the Cottage Methodist Church. Arrangements were by the Mentley Funeral Home Inc., Gowanda. |
