Grace (Gleason) Brooks, 82, of South Dayton, died Dec. 17, 2003. Mrs. Brooks worked as a night supervisor at the Gowanda Psychiatric Center for 28 years, retiring in 1981. She was a member of the South Dayton American Legion Post 1593, and the Cherry Creek VFW 2522. She served as a nurse in the Army during World War II, having attained the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. She enlisted on Feb. 23, 1944 and was discharged May 1, 1945. Mrs. Brooks was extremely patriotic and proud of her service and that her children also served. She was the wife of the late Eugene Brooks; daughter of the late Russell and Lucille (Brinkman) Gleason; mother of Michael Gleason of Centenial, CO, Jeffrey Brooks of Jacksonville, AR, Pamela West of Port Angeles, WA, Kerry Brooks of South Dayton, Leslie Bennett of McLean, VA, Tracey Brooks of Chandler, AZ, Barrie Brooks of South Dayton, and the late Lawrence Gleason; and sister of Elmer Gleason of Minnesota, Florence Mogensen of St. Peter, MN, and the late Lyle and Willard Gleason. Memorials may be made to the South Dayton Fire Department or South Dayton American Legion Post 1593. Arrangements were by the Hills Funeral Chapel, South Dayton. |
