Mrs. Charles graduated from Cattaraugus High School in 1926 and from Fredonia Normal, Class of 1929. She also attended the University of Buffalo. She and her husband raised three of her young cousins after their parents died.
She was a past president of PVCS Board of Education, a charter board member of Pine Valley Central School, member of the state Teachers Association for 42 years, and had also served on teacher and finance committees.
She was the wife of David H. Charles of Leon; daughter of the late M. Eugene and Ella (Gould) Garvey; cousin of Jean W. Brown of Brownstown, MI, and the late Ruth Palermo and Robert Wendel.
Memorials may be made to the Pine Valley Central School or Conewango UMC.
Arrangements were by the Hills Funeral Chapel, South Dayton.
