Howard W. Ebert, 85, of South Dayton, died Oct. 22, 2003. Mr. Ebert served as a Private in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He enlisted on May 12, 1945 in Buffalo and was discharged at Fort Dix, NJ, June 5, 1946. He was awarded the European-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. A special metals lathe operator for Allegheny-Ludlum Steel Corp. in Dunkirk, he retired in 1979. Mr. Ebert was a member of Hamlet United Methodist Church, Steel Union Local 2693, SOAR, AARP and American Legion Post 1593. He was the husband of Marjorie M. (Emke) Ebert; son of the late Charles L. and Estelle A. (Tennies) Ebert; father of Thomas Ebert of Daytona, FL, Bonnie Gabel of Gowanda and Judith Snyder of Leon; and brother of Alfred Ebert of Pensacola, FL, Clair Ebert of Lackawanna, Harold Ebert of Gowanda, Harry Ebert of Allegany, Marshall Ebert of Kentucky, Sylvester Ebert of Okatie, SC, Beatrice Martinez of Alexandria, VA, Alice Spangler of Salamanca, and the late Celeste Ebert, June Bartoszek, Carl, Irvin and Allen Ebert; also survived by 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Chautauqua County Hospice, the South Dayton Emergency Squad or the Hamlet United Methodist Church. Arrangements were by the Hills Funeral Chapel, South Dayton. |
