Jesse S. Sharp, MSGT. Ret., 82, of Tucson, AZ, formerly of South Dayton, died Aug. 20, 2003. Mr. Sharp graduated from South Dayton High School in 1939. Employed by the U.S. Army, he was stationed out of Fort Huachuca, AZ. With his military career spanning 30 years, he served during World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. Among the citations and certificates he received were the Army of Occupation Medal (Germany), National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal with a Good Conduct Medal (6th Awd), Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, Bronze Medal o/s Bars and Sharpshooter Badge-Carbine, along with a Letter of Appreciation from former President Richard Nixon. Mr. Sharp was a member of the Jamestown VFW and Jamestown American Legion posts. He became a 32nd Degree Mason in Georgia and belonged to Rising Sun Lodge 151 of the Philippines and Camp Zama, Japan, and the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry in Tokyo, Japan. He was the son of the late Oliver C. and Cansada (Mize) Sharp; longtime companion of Hazel Prevost of Tucson, AZ; and brother of Rodney J. Sharp of Jamestown and the late Eileen Gray; also survived by five cousins. Memorials may be made to the Western New York Alzheimer's Association. Arrangements were by the Schindler Funeral Home, Gowanda. Full military honors were observed Aug. 26, 2003 from the funeral home with Ft. Drum personnel, the American Legion Post 409 and VFW Post 5007 participating. |
