Angelo Castiglia, 93, of North Collins died July 24, 2003. Mr. Castiglia served for 15 years as trustee and deputy mayor of the Village of North Collins. He was employed as a millwright for the Bethlehem Steel Corporation for 40 years. As a resident of North Collins for 83 years, he dedicated nearly 70 years in volunteer service as a member of the North Collins Volunteer Fire Company. Mr. Castiglia also served as a Boy Scout leader for 10 years, was a life member of the Knights of Columbus and the Eden-North Collins Rod and Gun Club, a 50 year member of the Holy Spirit Holy Name Society, and was a past president of the Senior Citizens group. Mr. Castiglia was a village assessor and served as a member of the North Collins Assessment Board of Review for many years. All together, he has given decades of public service. He enjoyed the outdoors as an avid and enthusiastic gardener, hunter and fisherman. At a session of the Erie County Legislature, April 25, 1986, a resolution was adopted recognizing Angelo Castiglia for the "remarkable service" he had given North Collins for so many years. He was the husband of the late Carmella Gruppo Castiglia; father of Anna Marie (Donald) Fregelette of Eden, Mae (Ralph) Jeswald of North Collins, and Joseph Jerry (Barbara) Castiglia of Westfalls; and brother of Thomas Castiglia and Mary Compisi, both of North Collins; also survived by 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Arrangements were by the Wentland Funeral Home, North Collins. |
