High tide - This scene, in front of the Gowanda Penny Saver/News building on West Main Street, is a common site as flood waters from the Thatcher and Grannis brooks take over portions of the village in June 1998. Residents and business owners work for weeks to restore order and prepare for the upcoming Sesquicentennial celebration.

Century and a half - This Kiwanis Club of Gowanda float is just one example of the many floats participating in the Sesquicentennial parade in July 1998. Hundreds from Western New York, and beyond, visit Gowanda during one of the biggest events in its history. A long list of activities provide many opportunities for days of entertainment and fun.
