Countdown to the Millennium - 1987
From the Gowanda PennySaver - Oct. 25, 1999
AKA Stubbville - South Dayton is transformed into Stubbville, KS for the filming of "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles," starring John Candy and Steve Martin. Scenes are also shot in Gowanda for the movie that depicts the misadventures of two fellows attempting to get home to their families for the holidays. In the photo on left, the South Dayton Post Office displays the name and zip code of the fictional Stubbville. On the right, Candy, center, and Martin are seated in the back of a pickup - another prop - discussing a scene. (Photos courtesy of Karen Strickland)
