Making the connection - Although this photo is from 1962, it shows the degree of work needed to construct the four-lane bridge spanning the Cattaraugus Creek and connecting both sides of the village of Gowanda. An initiative taking months to complete, and in use at the end of the year, the bridge is finally dedicated on May 22, 1963. Keen eyes will spot the pedestrian bridge on the left-hand side of the photo. This enables residents to venture to businesses and visit friends without going all the way to the Aldrich Street bridge.
