Countdown to the Millennium - 1959
Spanning the Cattaraugus - The village of Gowanda gains a new bridge over the Cattaraugus Creek as the Aldrich Street bridge and street extension are constructed. One of the homes moved to make way for the street is the Ward Eaton residence. With easier access to the village, several community members request rezoning of the property for commercial use. Franklin Herdeg and Lee Vogtli propose a 10- to 12-store plaza for Aldrich Street Extension. The requests are denied. In the photo, the new bridge is shown in the background; in the center is Gowanda Mayor Ralph Schaack.  (Photo courtesy of Gowanda Area Historical Society)
