| Ready for retirement - The steamer fire apparatus proudly sits before the Gowanda Municipal Building prior to its journey to the American Museum of Fire Fighting in Hudson, NY in 1958. The steamer, purchased in 1875 for $3,200 and equipped with 1,000 of Eureka hose, was last used to fight the Eaton fire and is being given to the museum by the Gowanda Fire Department. Former Gowanda resident, Lewis Schlotzer, is the museum's guide. (Photo courtesy of Gowanda Area Historical Society) | ||||||||||
