Historical Article Series

The sections of our Gowanda PennySaver archives listed below contain material related to Gowanda's history. We have been blessed in recent years to have had many articles printed in our hometown paper dealing with people and events from the town's history. These glimpses back always make a special addition to the weekly current events that make up the bulk of any newspaper's content.

For 50 weeks in 1999, the Gowanda PennySaver ran a series called "Countdown to the Millennium". The series takes a year by year (1949 - 1999) look back at where Gowanda has been in preparation for what the future may hold.

Starting with the February 18, 2001 issue, the Gowanda PennySaver News has run a weekly series called "Reflections" compiled by the newspaper's editor, Mary Pankow. Each installment features a picture and/or story about a person, business or event from Gowanda's past.

From time to time, the Gowanda PennySaver/News has run lengthy stories of growing up in Gowanda that individuals have submitted. They usually appear as a series of shorter articles with a by-line for he individual who has shared their person history and memories with the community in this way.

Early in 2004 the Gowanda PennySaver/News began using short bits of historical facts about the Gowanda area as fillers. Each one is only a sentence or two long and they currently appear scattered throughout the pages of each edition of the paper.
