NC students recognized by school board for achievements

    Special recognition of Sara Clapper opened the North Collins School Boardmeeting on Sept. 27. She was presented with a special certificate for being named to the All-State Chorus.
    The board then approved funding attendance of the NYSSMA Conference for Clapper and her teacher, Jill McMullen.
    Clapper will be a participant in the special chorus program and conference to take place in Rochester in November. She earned participation in the special program by earning a perfect score of lOO on her Level 6 (most difficult level in competition) solo in regional competition in June.
    While not planning to pursue a singing career, she would like be a music or theater major in college. She is the daughter of Matt and Lori Clapper of North Collins.
    Corinne Weisedel was among other students recognized for special achievements that evening. Her poem "I Will Miss You" was published in the newspaper "Elementary School Writer."
    Recognized for successful completion of Action Learning Internship Program were Danielle Davies for psychology internship at Hopevale Home for Girls and Krista Foy for physical therapy internship at Sports Focus. The program enables high school seniors to work 20 volunteer hours in a chosen career field with professionals. In addition, they must also attend two and a half hours of class in the field each Thursday, and give an oral presentation to all 70 area participants to conclude the program.
    Receiving recognition for photography achievements were Rebecca Awald, Jessica Bantle and Hazel Wodehouse. All four received blue ribbons on their photos at Erie County Fair and Awald also received a blue at the New York State Fair in Syracuse.

    In other business, the board:
    *Changed the board meeting schedule of work sessions the third Wednesday of each month to work sessions the second Wednesday of each month.
    *Appointed Paul J. Ludwig, interim elementary principal, to the Committee on Special Education and Pre-School Special Education.
    *Appointed the following school board members to the Erie County Association of School Board committees: Bill Schmitz to Delegate Assembly and Anne Ehrlich to the Legislative Team.
    *Appointed the School District Professional Development Team for 2000-Ol as follows: Dr. Daniel Kujawinski as chairman and curriculum specialist, Jack Mann as superintendent, elementary principal/administration, Delores Case as CSE/CPSE chairman, Patrick Griffin as ELA chairman, James Hassett as math department chairman, Thomas Bittner as social studies department chairman, Scott Kaplan as library/media specialist; Mary Ebert, Michele Griffin, Kristine Santangelo, Coby Troidl, and Mary Ann Wargula as junior-senior high school teachers; Rozalin Warren as parent/elementary teacher, and Amy Abad and Lisa Roberts as elementary teachers.
    *Changed appointments made in July as follows: Grade 7 Class Advisor from Julie Palmer to Jill McMullen, Flag Instructor for Winterguard from Cassandra Damiani to Thomas Roberts, Rifle/Sabre Instructor for Winterguard from Amy Mellerski to Kathleen Batt. Tiffany Rogers was appointed Girls' J.V. Volleyball coach.
    *The North Collins Schools web page is now up and running at www.northcollins.com. Among the features of the site is daily homework posted by science department teachers Daniel Kujawinski and Julie Palmer. Additional features will be added during the year, including more teacher homework assignments if the page proves popular.
    *Approved funding of $370 requested by industrial arts teacher Kevin Manchester to allow production of wooden pens, key chains, and whistles by his classes.
    *Approved continuation of the safe deposit box rental at Fleet Bank and change of those authorized to enter the box to Jack Mann, Anthony Rotella and Lisa Burnett.
    *Accepted donation of a Macintosh Performa 631CD computer and peripherals for the elementary school by Dan and Becky Mecca.

    The next North Collins School Board work session will be Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. in the District Office.
