Certis runs for second term

     Incumbent Trustee John A. Certis is a candidate for a two-year term on the Gowanda Village Board on the Open Door Party ticket; he is currently completing his first term on the board. His assignments include building maintenance, Neighborhood Watch, ordinances, recreation, Street lighting and Thatcher Brook Task Force.

     Certis served on the Gowanda Ambulance Service Board of Directors for 10 years, including two terms as board president. He is employed as an industrial electrician at Se-Mar Electric Company, Inc. of West Seneca.

     The Certis family has resided on South Chapel Street for 15 years. His wife, Lisa, is employed in nutritional services at Tri-County Memorial Hospital. Their children, Edward and Ashley, are both Gowanda Central School graduates. Ashley earned the Spirit of Gowanda Excellence in Youth Award in 2004.

     Certis has been a member of The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 41 for 26 years, and also is a member of the Slovenian Club of Gowanda.

     The village election takes place Tuesday, March 21 from noon until 9 p.m. at the village hall, 27 East Main.
