Service personnel to be honored

Gowanda High School’s Building Improvement Team (BIT) is sponsoring “United We Stand” during the month of February. In cooperation with the student body, they are honoring family and friends who are serving or have served in the U.S. military.

Students are asked to bring a picture and write a short biography for each service person. A display of photos will be placed in the showcase across from the main office. Students are also encouraged to write a letter to any service person; the letters will be sent to those currently serving in the military.

The BIT is preparing for a “Celebrating Heritage” theme in March. Students will be asked to make posters and create artwork representing his/her heritage. The art will be exhibited throughout the school. The culminating event will take place on April 5 when the BIT sponsors “The Taste of Gowanda” at 5 p.m. in the high school cafeteria.

The BIT is looking for students, staff, and community members to participate in a cooking contest with foods representin a heritage or culture. There will be three categories: appetizers, main dishes, and desserts. Those interested in participating should call Sue Rebmann (532-3325, extension 6002) for applications and for more information.
