Collins Town Supervisor Ken Martin announced at the Oct. 3 town board meeting that as of Dec. 31 the L.K. Painter Center Inc. organization will disband. Many, but not all, of the programs conducted there will be assumed by the Healthy Community Alliance. Martin also announced that a recycling day for electronics computer equipment, fluorescent bulbs, batteries and such will be held at the Erie Community College South from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15.
Becky Jo Summers reported 438 town clerk transactions for September for a total of $7,283.75, of which the town’s portion was $3,688.92.She also reminded everyone that the town hall would be closed on Monday, Oct. 10 in recognition of Columbus Day.
Dan Stroud, water maintenance chief, said that they would be flushing water lines in Collins Center on Oct. 25, and in Collins and Seneca Heights on Oct. 26.
In other matters, the board:
• Agreed Community Development Block Grant requests would be prioritized with a water filtration system for Collins Center as number one and Rural Transit as number two.
• Agreed to try for a one-year extension on the purchase agreement on property for a new well system as there are still several questions to be resolved.
• As the cleanup of property at 14230 School Street in Collins Center has not been completed, agreed to town Attorney Jim Musacchio’s suggestion to allow one more week before doing the cleanup themselves, this giving the town time to appraise the job.
• Set public hearings for Nov. 7 in the Collins Town Hall at 7:30 p.m. on the fire contracts for the Rosenberg and Bagdad fire districts, and at 8 p.m. for a preliminary town budget hearing.
• Approved the hiring of the following people for the winter youth recreation program as recommended by the Town of Collins Recreation Commission: Head Counselor Karen Peters; Cashier John Butzer; No. 2 Cashier/Counselor Christine Bernard. As counselors: Mary Lillie, Tina Marrocco, Gerald Swanson, Michael Brown, Michael Gurney, Lisa Gernatt, Lindsey Peglowski, Amanda Gernatt and Sally Gurney. As substitute counselors: Dawn Finch, Elizabeth Payne and Judith Andolsek.
• Accepted, with regret, the resignation of Cliff Wheeler from the post of Youth Services director. Wheeler has served in this position for the past eight years. This resignation may set back the date for winter recreation pending the installation of a new director. Applications for the position may be submitted until 5 p.m. on Oct. 19 at the town clerk’s office.
• Agreed to pay Mary Peglowski for the double duty she has been performing as both chairperson and secretary of the town Recreation Commission.
The next regular meeting of the Collins Town Council will be held on Monday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. in the Collins Town Hall.
