Second shot at Regents will soon be available

     At the Aug. 3 meeting of the Gowanda Central School Board of Education, high school Principal Kimberley Moritz said that students wishing a second attempt at their Regents exams will have that opportunity on Aug. 16 and 17. Review classes in preparation for these tests will begin Monday, Aug. 8. As schedules vary, interested persons should call the guidance office for days and times.

     Elementary Principal Janice Stokes said that Thursday. Aug. 25 from 9 a.m. to noon, will be “Get to know your school day” for new students in the elementary school.

     District Superintendent Charles Rinaldi stated that before the beginning of the new school year, parents of students would receive in the mail an information packet with a wealth of information, and requests for information for the school to insure that their records are correct.

     In other matters, the board:
   • Approved the student handbooks for the elementary, middle and high schools.
   • Adopted the Free and Reduced Meal Policy Statement of the National School Lunch and Breakfast program.
   • Approved the memorandum o agreement with the Village of Gowanda regarding School Resource Officers.
   • Approved the appointment of Crystal Furman, math teacher, as teacher mentor for the 2005-06 school year.
   • Appointed Gary Sprague as substitute teacher, effective Sept. 1.
   • Accepted the resignation of Margaret Watz as food service worker, eftective July 31.
   • Approved the temporary transfer of Kimberly Militello, part-time cleaner, to the position of long-term substitute cleaner, effective Aug. 4.

     The next regular meeting of the Gowanda Central School Board of Education will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. in the middle school cafeteria.
