Gowanda WaveRunners update...
The Gowanda WaveRunners participated in the Niagara Swim League 2004-05 Championship Swim Meet at Fredonia State University on Sunday, March 13. The meet included 473 swimmers from 14 different teams. Swimmers had to meet qualifving times for individual events to enter the meet. All of the events are swum in yards.
The 14 Gowanda WaveRunners who qualified for the meet swam 35 events in their appropriate age groups: 8 and under, 9- and 10-year-olds, 11- and 12-year-olds, 13- and 14-year-olds, and 15-18-year-olds.
The results were as follows: Elana Anderson (16) placed second in 50 freestyle, sixth in 100 freestyle, and eighth in 100 backstroke; Taylor Anderson (12) placed second in 50 freestyle and third in 100 freestyle; Zach Anderson (14) placed 16th in 100 freestyle and ninth in 100 backstroke; Alecia Farner (13) placed 21st in 50 freestyle, 11th in 200 freestyle, and 15th in 100 backstroke; RJ Hagner (13) placed ninth in 50 freestyle, 14th in 100 freestyle, and seventh in 100 backstroke; Jacob Kohler(10) placed second in 100 IM, first in 100 freestyle, and first in 50 butterfly; Davina Macleod (14) placed ninth in 50 freestyle, seventh in 200 IM, and seventh in 100 fly; Martha Macleod (17) placed 11th in 50 freestyle, and ninth in 100 freestyle; Matthew Minnick (9) placed 11th in 50 freestyle, 11th in 100 IM, and 13th in 50 backstroke; Kenny Quiter (11) placed third in both the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke; Amanda Stang (15) placed 12th in both the 50 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke; and Katie Stang (10) placed ninth in the 50 freestyle, 15th in the 100 IM, and second in the 50 breast. Trophies were awarded for first, second and third place, medals were given for fourth, fifth, and sixth place, and ribbons were given for seventh through 16th place. The WaveRunners brought home nine trophies, one medal, and 20 ribbons.
The Gowanda WaveRunners participated in the Hammer Head Swim Club Spring Sprints on Saturday, March 12. The meet was a Gold/Silver/Bronze Meet and the swimmers strive to swim well enough to meet time brackets that are ranked Gold, Silver, or Bronze, times that are set and sanctioned by USA Swimming.
The WaveRunners who competed were Kearsten Pipkins, Alecia Farner, Kenny Quiter, Davina Macleod, Katie Stang, Matthew Minnick, Ollie Kohler, Ashley Burr, Sean Burke, RJ Hagner, Bethany West and Jacob Kohler. The 12 swimmers brought home 31 ribbons.
