Gowanda Recreation Department news...
The Gowanda Recreation Department will be winding up the winter portion of their program with the last night for roller-skating scheduled for Friday, March 18. On Saturday, March 19, the Saturday morning basketball and swimming program will conclude. The Monday night men’s basketball program is scheduled to run until March 21. However, that program may be extended after the Easter break for a few Mondays in April.
The “Learn to Ski” program went well according to coordinator Steve Meyers. A pizza party was held on the last night at Holiday Valley for the skiers and chaperones. The group from Gowanda was commended by Holiday Valley for their organization and discipline.
The Gowanda Community Youth Group has been busy planning activities under the direction of Amy Fantaske. The group consists of junior and senior high students who will be doing worthwhile projects to benefit community members.
The annual Easter Egg Hunt will be held at St. John Park on Saturday, March 26. This year, children under the age of 5 will hunt for eggs from 11 to 11:30a.m. Children in the 5-8-year-old age group will follow. All children are encouraged to bring their Easter baskets to collect their eggs. Prizes will be awarded to the top 10 children in each age group who collect the most eggs during the hunt. There will also be a raffle for a large Easter basket. In case of inclement weather, this event will be held the following Saturday at the same time and location.
Ballroom dancing lessons have been held the past two weeks at the Slovenian Club. If any couple or individual would like to join this group for the last six weeks (there is no dancing on Easter Sunday), please report to the Slovenian Club before 7 p.m. this week and sign up. The cost is $20 per couple each week.
