  Tax reduction possible
for land owners

Owners of agricultural land may qualify for a reduction in property taxes if they own land that is used for farming. The NYS Agricultural Value Assessment process allows for land to be assessed based on the productivity of its soils for agricultural production, rather than on its actual resale value. This could result in a lower taxable value for land.

Landowners interested in applying for Agricultural Value Assessment should contact The Cattaraugus County Soil & Water Conservation District to complete Soil Group Worksheets that are required to submit to their local assessor with their application. For more information, contact the Conservation District office at 8 Martha St. in Ellicottville, phone 699-2326, extension 114.
