Word Masters - Recently, the annual Buffalo Evening News Spelling Bee contest was held at St. Joseph School. Students in grades six, seven and eight competed to show their spelling prowess by figuring out such words as silica, astrologer, kinetic, companion, circuit, and epilepsy. Pictured here are the top two spellers: James Sowa and Scott Wargo. For placing first, James will receive a dictionary, while Scott will receive a certificate of merit for placing second. In addition, James went on to compete at the county level by taking a written spelling test on Feb. 9.
