A river runs through it …

by Terri M. Bahne

Although the snow may be flying now, the past month has warranted various unusual warm spells. The area of Lincoln Street in Perrysburg had become very saturated throughout these thawing days, therefore reiterating the situation that the problem isn’t when the area is frozen, Water/Sewer Superintendent Robin Clark intonated at the Jan. 11 Village of Perrysburg Board meeting, but when it thaws. "The problem is that water runs right down off the hill," Clark added.

Mayor Tony Kota addressed the public concern that was posed to the board, stating that several tons of stone have been dumped there to help drain the water off.

Trustee Michael Cooper added that talk of putting drains in the problem area in the spring have commenced. "Charlie, Luther and myself will go up [to Lincoln Street] in the spring to see how we should proceed," he said.

The question as to whether or not the village will institute a cat leash law has left Dog Warden Kathy Hagner stating, "I don’t know what to tell [people]." She added that, "It’s not the pets that are causing the problem, it’s the people leaving them [when they move away]."

Hagner’s report prompted the board to offer a public meeting/work session on Jan. 25 at 7 p.m. in the town hall for anyone wishing to discuss the issue of the village adopting a cat leash law.

In other business:

   •  Mayor Kota expressed an interest in running for the mayoral seat in the upcoming election, as Trustee Tracy Gurney also expressed an interest in running for a full-termed trustee as well.
   •  NYS DDSO is drawing up a contract now that will extend the water lines.

The next regularly scheduled Perrysburg Village Board meeting will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. in the town hall.
