Update on water projects given in Perrysburg

by Mary Pankow

Town of Perrysburg Supervisor Myrton Sprague announced that he had met with a representative from Fiscal Advisors and Marketing regarding the Prospect Street Water Project. According to Bonnie Brown, the firm’s representative, the $330,000 for the project should be available to the town Jan. 20.

Also at the Nov. 8 board meeting, Supervisor Sprague noted that Engineer Mark Alianello has been working with the surveyor on the Versailles Water Project. The utility lines have been identified.

Regarding the Central Water Project, Alianello will be meeting with Sprague and Perrysburg Village Mayor Tony Kota to discuss the status of the project.

Sprague announced that the state is planning a new day hab center on Route 39 and that facility will need water. Also, a meeting between state representatives and the City of Buffalo in October went well. The sale of the former J.N. Adam Hospital property is expected to take place soon and, hopefully, the town’s acquisition of the water system and transmission line will go smoothly as well.

     In other matters, the board:
   •  Was told by Dog Warden Kathy Hagner that over the past month she has captured 10 strays. Six of the dogs were claimed while four were taken to the SPCA.

Also, she notified the board that a Rottweiler is running loose in the Dewey Road/Jolls Road area. There are two dogs running loose on Stafford Road as well.

Additionally, Hagner issued five tickets for no license and three tickets for at-large violations.

Concluding her report, Hagner reminded everyone that since hunting season is here, owners should keep their dogs tied up.

   •  Read the Justice Report that noted the following: Justice Jonette Taber - 22 vehicle and traffic, two penal, one ag and markets, and six dismissed cases for a total of $2,685; Justice Connie Johnson - 11 vehicle and traffic, one small claims, two ag and markets, and three dismissed cases for a total of $1,172.
   •  Read Building Inspector Jim Pacanowski’s report that stated three building permits had been issued, one appearance ticket sent to a violator and that he will be conducting a townwide inspection for violations soon.
   •  Heard Highway Superintendent Charlie Leight’s report. Leight expressed his dissatisfaction with the tire problem on the new tractor. Zahm & Matson is expected to repair the faulty tire within the week.

A highway truck has been repaired after it was discovered the vehicle had a broken motor mount. Other repairs were also done. The town was not charged for parts, just labor.

Leight notified the board that Cattaraugus County was designated for FEMA funds stemming from damages incurred by Hurricane Frances.

As the snow was falling outside the board room, Leight commented that the sanders and plows are on and his department is ready for winter!

In conclusion, the highway superintendent noted an odor problem with the new heaters for the highway garage. A carbon monoxide test will be conducted and the source of the odor is under investigation.

   •  Announced that the town is looking into worker’s compensation providers and finding extremes in prices - the most costly to date is $35,862. Other avenues will be explored and the village will be approached about helping financially with the worker’s comp insurance for firefighters.
   •  Announced that a resident had requested that a traffic study be done on West Perrysburg Road. They would like the speed limit of 55 mph reduced to 45 mph.

The town will contact the county about conducting a study.

The next Town of Perrysburg Board meeting will be Monday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. in the town hall.
