Volk to be inducted
into 'Hall of Fame'
Gowanda-area resident Don Volk will be inducted into the Cattaraugus County Sports “Hall of Fame” at the third annual banquet to be held in Great Valley on Saturday, Nov. 20 beginning at 6 p.m.
Volk will be one of 12 honorees countywide that have been selected based on their longevity, dedication and success in sports.
Volk has been chosen as Pioneer Central School’s recipient this year after a long teaching career in their district. He has officiated basketball, baseball and softball in Cattaraugus County for over 30 years. He has umpired or refereed at the college and high school level that included sectional and state playoff games. Volk has also held the office of president, secretary and treasurer for the Cattaraugus County Umpires Association.
Friends and colleagues of Don Volk are encouraged to attend this “Hall of Fame” banquet to honor his induction. Tickets are $20 apiece and can only be reserved by calling Mark Benton at 532-4053 before Nov. 13. No tickets will be sold at the door on the night of the event. The third annual banquet will be held at the Great Valley Firemen’s Club on Depot Street in Great Valley.
