Councilman Mary A. Stelley is endorsed by the Republican, Conservative and Independence parties in the upcoming November elections as candidate for the one-year councilman term on the Collins Town Board. Having served six years on the Collins Town Board, Stelley has comprehensive knowledge of the intricacies of local government. She was instrumental in obtaining a $90,000 Community Development Block Grant for the new library, as well as a $91,000 NYS Library Construction Grant. She has attended conferences sponsored by the Office of the State Comptroller and the Association of Towns, thereby adding to her expertise. A committed civic leader, Stelley is active in St. Joseph’s Church and Business and Professional Women of NYS, of which she is a past president. She is currently president of the Gowanda BPW. She has also served as secretary for the Steering Committee of the Friends of the Collins Public Library, as director of the Gowanda Area Chamber of Commerce and as senior regent and recorder of the Gowanda Chapter 651, Women of the Moose. She was the recipient of the 1991 Woman of the Year award from the Gowanda BPW and the 1997 Chamber of Commerce Spirit of Gowanda Award. A Gowanda High School business graduate, Stelley is the current manager/treasurer of the Gowanda Area Federal Credit Union, a $10 million asset financial institution. She and her husband, Robert, reside on Armes Court and have two children and three grandchildren. Her business experience confirms the importance of annual audits, internal controls and fiscal responsibility. She is committed to working for the residents of the Town of Collins.
