Lew Gabel to be inducted
to 'Hall of Fame’

Long-time Gowanda resident and avid bowler Lew Gabel will be honored at the 2004 Sports “Hall of Fame” banquet on Saturday, Nov. 20 in Great Valley beginning at 6 p.m.

Gabel recently retired after 45 years at K&&L Lanes. Lew, along with his brother, Ken, purchased the alleys in 1959 and brought bowling to a new level in the area during his long and illustrious career.

A fixture in the Monday Night “A” league, Gabel bowled his first 300 game on April 4, 2004. He carried a very high average in the best local league for many years. Noted for his friendly personality, he started a junior bowling league for kids and his establishment played host to numerous high school bowling matches.

Friends of Lew Gabel are encouraged to attend this “Hall of Fame” banquet to honor his countywide induction. Tickets are $20 apiece and can only be reserved by calling Mark Benton at 532-4053 before Nov. 13. No tickets will be sold at the door on the night of the event. The third annual banquet will be held at the Great Valley Firemen’s Club located on Depot Street in Great Valley.
