Don Tew leaving Gowanda Board of Education

     District Clerk Tana Troke announced at the Aug. 18 meeting of the Gowanda Central School Board of Education that the newest member, Don Tew, is leaving the area and has therefore handed in his resignation, effective Aug. 9. Tew accepted a seat on the BOE in May, when his name received the most number of write-in votes for an uncontested position on the board. District Superintendent Charles Rinaldi said the board will review its options regarding Tew’s replacement.

     Rinaldi also announced that they will be mailing out very soon a back-to-school bulletin, which will contain much information regarding the coming school year such as bus routes, school bell schedules, lunch prices, etc.

     In other matters, the board:

   • Approved the contract with Moving Music for disc jockey services for the homecoming dance Oct. 23 at a cost of $295, sponsored by the senior high student council.
   • Appointed Robert J. Feldman from the law firm of Gross, Shuman, Brizdle and Gilfillan, P.C. to handle legal matters related to the potential litigation with Lake Shore Central School District pertaining to the distribution of Erie County sales tax.
   • Appointed Callan Bergmann to the lifeguard list.
   • Appointed Timothy Smith,on probation, to the academic tenure area of social studies 7-12. Probation to run from Sept. 1, 2004 to Sept. 1, 2007.
   • Appointed Susan D. Stoj part-time to the academic area of science 7-12, effective Sept. 1.
   • Appointed William Dempsey, on probation, to the academic area of K-12 special education. Probation to begin Sept. 1, 2004 and run to Sept. 1, 2007.
   • Appointed Keith Harvey as a substitute bus driver and Patricia Harvey as a substitute bus driver and substitute bus attendant, effective Aug. 19.

     The next regular meeting of the Gowanda Central School Board of Education will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 1 at 7 p.m. in the middle school cafeteria.
